Chin up

Can you see Bradley’s head is facing to the sky as he takes this jump?

Well, when I noticed him doing this during his lesson, I shouted at him to pay more attention.
Big oops!! I was the one not paying attention.  He’s been told to do that!

He’s being taught not to look forwards and down while he jumps, so they’re Roosterteaching him to look at everything around him.  This will apparently teach him to think about the next jump, and not the current jump which will make his jumps more successful.  Apparently if the horse senses you are looking down (from your body language), it will hesitate before trying to jump.

I learnt something today.  Clearly, I should stop trying to take photos of roosters and chickens and pay more attention to my son :)

I bet it is sort of like turning a corner in a car – you are supposed to look far ahead at the place you want to end up. I bet it’s a similar theory.
