Living in a vacuum

Sometimes I think I must live in a vacuum, and then I get bombarded with new things that I just have to investigate further. So, I thought that if you’re anything like me, there are a lot of you that don’t know about them either! And I feel the need to share today ;)

I learnt about these 3 things today

1.  Microsoft Surface… it’s the latest and greatest desktop thingy which they say will replace the PC in the home in the next 5 years… it’s already in SA!

OMW I think that’s a gadget I want!  It looks so cool!!

2.  Blu-Ray Disc… this is apparently going to replace the DVD in the next few years

I’d heard about Blu Ray, but I really didn’t know the extent to which it’s taking hold of the market.  It’s just a pity it’s still so expensive.

3.  Flock… Mozilla’s answer to social networking. It’s the new thing that people are getting into… and you hook Facebook and Twitter and all your blogs and gmail and Flickr etc into it.  It’s basically a glorified reader and you get updated all the time.

Well, I’ve spent the last hour installing it and playing with it.  And I like… very much.  I’m now using it instead of the standard Firefox browser.  Nice, very nice.

What have you learnt about lately that I might not know?

Laugh at me if I’m a bit in the slow lane Wink I don’t mind, I’ve already got a hammering at work today for not knowing these things alreadySmile

And guess how I found out about them?  By reading May’s issue of Menshealth Best Life magazine at work.  I think I’m going to buy it for Lance from now on.  There were quite a few articles that were interesting.  LOL!

Thanks for the heads-up on Flock. I’m going to check it out when I get a chance.

oh my word….that microsoft surface thing. sort of scary. I wonder if I could just lay my head on it, and it would write a blog post for me. that would rock! :)

Haha. I love shiny new things too. I tried flock a few months ago, and loved it, but I’ve moved onto iGoogle - I think it’s better than flock.
And ja, the blu-ray thing took me by surprise too.

You rock! Thanks so much for posting this. Flock sounds right up my alley of things I’d love :)

Neen, I was using iGoogle, but I prefer Flock as a browser and you could always keep your default page as iGoogle anyway.

oooh I like the look of Flock… I think I’ll try that out when the littlies are in bed tonight ;)

Isn’t it funny that u needed to read a men’s health magazine to find out all about these cool things? Woman’s magazines just aren’t up to scratch. I’m thinking this is a gap in the market….a woman’s mag for the 21st century girlie techy….
Anyone with a bit of vision and spare change out there…?
