Ok, now what?
I’m dying to use my new toy, but I need a lens or two… and a camera bag… and a spare battery. I can’t do much with the free lens.
What would you all suggest? In the way of lenses that is. As for a bag, I’d love to get a shootsac, but OMW the cost is astronomical (especially if you multiply the USD by 7 or 8 to get the Rands!) and I’ve never seen anything like that in South Africa.
Where’s the best place to read up about lenses, like a dummy guide?
I’ve heard that the best one to get as an all-rounder is a 70mm-200mm, is that right?
I was trying to figure out the camera earlier on, and OMW I need lots of time with it.
And Corey, you asked me to explain how to remove the data from photos, and how I do my framing.. I’m going to post about it tomorrow night, I don’t have the energy now, LOL! Life at work has been kind of hectic this week again.
On the work front, I’ve facilitated 2 project sessions this week already, and I have another one planned for Friday. They’re so draining, because they take 3-4 hours each!
And on the home front, I took Connor for his 15 mth MMR jabs this morning before work. He’s had a growth spurt again… and his weight spiked… he now weighs more than 14kg. LOL, just when I thought he was actually losing weight
But I think it’s because of all the layers he was wearing… damn it’s cold here at the moment!

Flickr- it’s where I’ve been doing my research for lenses. You have a Canon so just start joining the Canon groups, then you can start reading up on lenses. Loads of people ask questions and plenty of people have answers/opinions. I also have spent tooo many hours of my life here http://www.dpreview.com/ . It’s a super website with loads of info.
you can research lenses on flickr w/out joining the groups- don’t know why I phrased it that way.
I’m finding it more frustrating using the lense I got with my camera too… I think a lens-buying session may be in order, but I’m gonna keep an eye out on what you decide – you may have emails from me asking questions!
I’m dreaming of a new lens myself. The one that came with it is alright…but…it’s not great. I’m lusting after just a simple telephoto….but we have to wait until the purse strings loosen up a bit. I have no advice on what to get, I’m still researching myself!
Congrats on your new camera! I’m sure you will enjoy it. I also have a cannon and love it!
I bought a 75-300mm and I think it’s great. The only thing I wish I would have thought of before buying it was having a macro function. So that’s next on my wish list
I’ve been enjoying all your other photos. Looking forward to what you will do with this camera. I really should get to posting more on my blog.
oooo I love to talk lenses.
the dpreview site is my fav, but I am new to flickr so I haven’t looked at that yet. thanks for that tip.
as for lenses.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my 50mm 1.8 lense. I use it about 85% of the time. The other 15% of the time I use my 100 mm 2.8 macro lens which I love as well.
I am really into PRIME lenes. I find them to be much sharper than the lenses that have variable focal lengths.
I NEVER use my kit lens. It just isn’t as sharp.
I am wanting the 75-300mm IS lenses though. I wouldn’t get a zoom without the image stablization for taking photos unless you like using a tripod.
oh and I’ll be looking for your post on the framing Jeanette. Thanks!
