Bradley can speak Afrikaans apparently
Marlise and her 2 kids came over on Saturday for a braai (bbq) and a playdate (Tommie was playing paintball). Now, they’re Afrikaans speaking at home, but their kids are biligual and speak English very well, so the communication between her kids and my kids have never been an issue.
Bradley is fascinated by languages at the moment, yet he can only speak English (even though Lance is Afrikaans speaking). Even though he can’t understand when people talk in different languages, he always tries to decipher which language they’re speaking in, and what they’re saying. He’s also picked up one or two phrases from Marlise and her kids over the last few months, which he’s very proud to blurt out.
We laughed so much on Saturday, because out of the blue, Bradley sauntered over to the table outside and said to Marlise… “I know some Afrikaans Marlise!”
… to which she replied “So, what can you say in Afrikaans?”
Bradley replies “Kom hierso!” (come here)
“… and Hoe Gaan Dit” (How are you?”)
“… and Wena!!” …. Ooops, that’s not Afrikaans, that’s Sotho!! LOL!! It means You! And it’s normally accompanies by Hey, as in Hey Wena (ie Hey You)!!
LOL, at least he grouped languages from the same country together.

Wow! Good for him!
It’s so cool that he is exposed to so many languages!
Oh how totally cute is that!!
And so smart for the explanation!!
Oh Bless him J! He really is a bright little button!
I always find it very amusing when my young nieces speak English to my husband… Cute!
